Where to start

Most remodels reach us at one of three points. Any of them is fine, but they change what happens next.

PLANNING

You have an idea and no contractor yet. Call us early. We can tell you what your layout will cost in plumbing terms before you commit to it, and give you names of contractors we work with.

UNDERWAY

You already have a contractor and they need a licensed plumber. We work as the plumbing trade on the job and coordinate around their schedule.

STALLED

Someone started it and left, or an unpermitted change failed inspection. We see this often. We will tell you honestly what has to be redone and what can be saved.

Why the plumbing goes in first

Drains decide the layout

Supply lines are flexible. Drains need fall, and on a slab they need to be where the slab lets them be. Choosing a fixture layout before anyone looks at the drains is the most expensive mistake in a remodel.

Slabs change the math

Most of Acadiana is on slab. Moving a shower drain or an island sink can mean cutting concrete, and that is a very different number from moving a wall line. We would rather tell you before you have paid for cabinets.

Permits and inspection

Remodel plumbing that moves or adds lines gets inspected. Work done without a permit tends to surface later when you sell the house. We pull the permit and meet the inspector.

How a remodel job runs with us

You call
Tell us the room, the layout you want, and whether you already have a contractor.
We look at the drains
On site, we check what is actually under the floor and what your layout will really require. You get the plumbing number before you commit.
Rough-in
Lines moved and set, inspected, and left ready for the trades that follow. We coordinate timing with your contractor.
Trim out
After tile and cabinets go in, we come back to set the fixtures, test everything and leave it working.

Remodel plumbing questions we get in Lafayette and Youngsville

Do you do the whole bathroom remodel?

No. We do the plumbing: moving lines, rough-in and setting fixtures. Tile, cabinets, framing and electrical are other trades. If you do not have a contractor, we can give you names of people we work with.

Can you move my shower or sink?

Usually yes. How involved it is depends on where the drain runs. On a slab, moving a drain can mean cutting concrete, so we look before quoting.

Can I convert my tub to a walk-in shower?

Yes, and it is one of the most common remodels we plumb. The drain usually has to move, so it is worth checking early.

Do I need a permit?

Remodel plumbing that moves or adds lines generally does. We pull it and meet the inspector. Unpermitted work tends to surface when you sell.

Can you add a second bathroom?

Often yes. It depends on where the existing drain lines run and whether the new layout can tie into them. That is the first thing we check.

Should I call you before or after the contractor?

Before, if you can. Knowing what the plumbing will cost and where the drains can go often changes the layout, and it is far cheaper to change on paper.
